Marnie makes her living by getting hired as a secretary in places dealing with money. She then steals the money and disapears, changing her identity and her city of residence. One day her scheme is discovered by the boss of the firm where she works, who gives her the choice to be sent to jail or to marry him. She goes for the latter, but the husband discovers that his wife has psychological troubles (fear of thunderstorms, of red color, of being touched by men, recuring nightmares). He wants to help her, and gets information on her past. He then drives her to her mother's place to face the truth about the trauma she had lived during her childhood: her mother was a prostitute, and one night of thunderstorm Marnie was being abused by a client. Her mother tries to protect her, hits the client with a poker, and gets injured in the process. In order to help her, Marnie kills the client who ends up in a pool of blood. Due to the shock, she kept no memory of the event, and her mother raised her to despise men.

A remake of Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder. A rich (but soon to be ruined) husband wants to kill his wife in order to inherit her fortune. He pays his wife's lover (who has seduced her only to take her money) to murder her. The lover hires a former prison mate of his to kill the woman. The killer fails and gets killed in self-defense by the woman. The woman then discovers several clues that her husband is actually the one who tries to get rid of her, while the lover tries to blackmail the husband. The husband kills the lover while he tries to flee with the blackmail money, and the wife eventually kills her husband in self-defense when he discovers that she knows about his plot.

I just watched Dr. Strangelove (Docteur Folamour in French), by Stanley Kubrick. The movie is a dark comedy about a crazy general launching a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. They manage to call off the attack, except for one bomber the radio of which got destroyed and could not be contacted. The bomber destroys its target and triggers the Doomsday Device that the Soviets just finished to build, provoking a nuclear holocaust all over the Earth.

It definitely is dark red, going slightly brown. Its taste is very slightly fruity and quite bitter, with a definitely bitter aftertaste.

I just bought ginger stems in syrup. These are great! You can eat them just like candies, they have the texture of of a fruit jelly, the taste of ginger, but without the awfully hot taste of fresh ginger (just try chewing a piece of raw ginger if you don't know what I mean). It's still a bit hot, but it's reasonnable.

Huitième tome des Futurs mystères de Paris de Roland C. Wagner, Kali Yuga est un roman très court mettant en scène Tem, le détective transparent et, Edgar ´yviec, scribouillard et exégète de Richard Montaigu, le grand-père de Tem. Ils sont aidés par Gédéon Geai et Lucille, une des « filles » de Peggy Sue.

Tem enquête, à la demande de Gorgone Maupaçant, sur le changement de circonscription électorale de dix-mille personnes entre les deux tours des législatives. Toutes ces personnes ont fait leur demande de changement le même soir, à la même heure. Tem suspecte qu'un fascinateur en est la cause. En même temps, un homme de Néanderthal en costume-cravate entre télépathiquement en contact avec Tem et lui dit « Kali Yuga ». Avec l'aide de ´yviec qui parvient à recouper les faits décrits par Montaigu dans Le nombril du monde avec des faits réels qui se sont déroulés au moment de la Terreur, il découvre que la machination politique a pour but de préserver un ensemble de bâtiements et de galeries souterraines qui abritent une machine « steampunk » servant à concentrer l'énergie psychique filtrant de la psychosphère par le nombril du monde (un menhir dans le bois de Clamart). Tem et ´yviec rencontrent l'homme de Néanderthal dans les-dits souterrains, dont le nom est Kali Yuga. Ce dernier a utilié la machine afin d'amplifier ses pouvoirs psy et fasciner les électeur qui ont changé de circonscription. Ils apprennent aussi qu'il est en fait le descendant de la 6è génération d'une expérience d'eugénisme à l'envers qui a débuté au milieu du XIXè siècle dans le but de recréer l'homme de Néanderthal. Tem comprend alors que l'« ADN étrange » qui donne aux millénaristes leurs pouvoirs psychiques provient en fait du génome de l'homme de Néanderthal, et qu'une partie de la psychosphère pourrait en fait provenir du psychisme de nos loitains cousins.

Le prologue du livre met un scène un groupe de rockers (le rock'n roll a été remis à la mode quelques mois auparavant) dont Peggy Sue se propose d'être le manager, sans donner de raison valable. Ceci n'a aucune influence sur l'histoire du roman ; il semble que Wagner ne fasse que planter le décor pour le roman suivant.

Infusé dans un verre à 70 °C. Plutôt doux, il me rappelle vaguement le lin yun (pas sûr, ça fait bien longtemps que j'ai terminé celui-là) ou le long jing (je n'en ai jamais bu plus de quelques tasses), mais sans ce goût amer qui apparaît rapidement lorsque l'infusion se prolonge.

Don't take me wrong: I enjoyed reading Da Vinci Code (but much less Digital Fortress). It's not so much that being a geek I know more about computer security and cryptography (which are at the core of Digital Fortress) than about history and theology (which are the heart of Da Vinci Code), than the liberty the author takes with reality. I don't mean by that all the small but difficult technical details that non-specialists don't even start to imagin, but the small details that are (or should be) common knowledge, or are at least easy to check.

For example, he claims in Digital Fortress that the Giralda in Seville has a height of 419 ft (140 m) whereas it is actually 320 ft (97.5 m) tall. Many people I've told this claimed “Whatever, it's only science-fiction after all!” Well, in my opinion, writing science-fiction is not an excuse for sloppy background research. Another example from Da Vinci Code: Brown claims that Paris was founded by the Merovingians, whereas it did exist already five hundred years earlier. What's the point in twisting reality like that? It does not add anything to the story, so it can be reasonably attributed only to sloppy research (some people mentioned that Dan Brown has a hidden agenda. Whatever). And I won't even go into the details of biblical history.

Well, the guy is a charlot, and he proves once more that with good marketing, you can sell anything.

J'ai essayé hier soir de mélanger du Choco Noursy avec de la Chartreuse 1605, et le résultat était terrible ; probablement la noisette qui se marie mal avec la Chartreuse. Ne surtout jamais réessayer.

I just watched the four first episodes yesterday, subtitled in Finnish. It was pretty easy to understand, but then again, the story is not of the difficult kind: a guy moves in as the janitor of a home for young girls, pretending to be a student (whereas he already failed twice the test for entering the university of Tokio). At the same time, he remembers that when he was a small boy he made a promise to his sweetheart to meet again at the university of Tokio. He didn't remember the name of the girl, though but surprise, surprise! she's one of the girls living the the home.

Nice to watch because it's so easy to follow, but it really looks like as series for post-teen geek boys who fantasize on finding a girlfriend but have no clue as how to do it.

Cowboy Bebop is about a bounty hunter roaming the solar system. I watched a couple of episodes, and until now, the hero does not seem to be very efficient in his job, since he did not catch his preys (they didn't escape though, the first one got shot by his girlfriend, and the second crashed on the parking lot of the police station). The series is quite violent but probably no more than your average action TV series (big guns shooting all over the place, fast vehicles crashing, this kind of things). One good thing is that the characters do not make stupid faces when they are feeling emotions, on the contrary to most of the previous japanimation series I've watched. That's a definite good point for the series. Also, the episodes seem to be quite independent from each other, there is no long-running story to keep the viewers hooked (maybe this would develop in later episodes?)

Probably the series I enjoyed the most among the ones I recently discovered: it's not all about feelings and relationships between people, but on the other hand, the stories don't fly very high either, which is one drawback of the format (you can't put much in a 20 minutes show meant to be a complete story).

One more anime series, again quite different from the others. Gravitation is about a rock band trying to become famous, and the lead singer of which falls in love with a famous love-stories writer. The main character is impredictible (some would say “crazy”), and the story is therefore full of surprises. This makes the series watchable even if romance is not my cup of tea.

Another series of which I watched the four first episodes last evening, subtitled in Finnish as well. Much more difficult to understand than Love Hina, this series is more about the description of weird characters. The story goes like this: an orphan girl lives in a house with three mysterious boys. The boys have been victim of a curse of some kind, because when touched by a girl, they they turn into animals: a rat, a dog and a cat. The problem is that the cat is not part of the Chinese Zodiac, and it makes the character very angry because he feels inferior to the rat. Then appears a girl who is madly in love with the cat-guy (“madly” is the right word, because she annoyingly keeps on beating him up) and who turns into a wild pig when touched by a man.

This series is about the hero discovering hidden aspects of the various characters and the characters being able to overcome their fear of being touched by other people. I think.

One more anime series I discovered yesterday, again subtitled in Finnish. This one takes place in feudal Japan and is about two samurais (who want all the time fight each other) helping a girl to find a mysterious “sunflower-smelling samurai”. They agreed to help the girl after she helped them escape from the claws of a tyranic local governor who blamed them for killing his son. Later on, they join two gangs of Yakuza who fight against each other for the control of a city.

Samurai Champloo is definitely a different genre than the two other anime I recently watched. The setting is more or less grounded in Japanese history (but there is a warning at the beginning not to consider it as a historical document), and can be enjoyable if you don't mind the katana slashing and the blood stains. One thing I hated about it was the opening titles music: who the hell decided that rap is a suitable kind of music for feudal Japan stories?

Le pu-er est un thé qui se bonifie avec l'age, tout comme le vin. À Taïwan, les conditions de conservations sont paraît-il optimales, puisqu'il y fait souvent plus de 22 °C et que 80% d'humidité n'y est pas rare. Comme l'idée m'a effleurée d'acheter du pu-er pour le conserver, je me suis demandé quel est le degré d'humidité à la maison, et quelle pièce serait la plus adaptée pour y conserver du thé. J'ai donc acheté un hygromètre couplé à un thermomètre. Pour l'instant il y a 39% d'humidité dans le salon pour 26 °C (et 23 °C dehors).

Le septième tome des Futurs mystères de Paris de Roland C. Wagner, mettant en scène Temple Sacré de l'Aube Radieuse (Tem pour les intimes), un détective doté du don de « transparence » qui fait que la plupart de gens oublient son existence même lorsqu'il se tient face à eux.

Ce qui suit dévoile le dénouement du roman !

Dans Babaluma, Tem part enquêter sur l'identité du véritable père de Ramirez (son meilleur ami) au Plessis-Robinson, dans la banlieue sud de Paris. Le Plessis-Robinson a été transformé en un piège géant destiné à retenir toute personne y pénétrant. L'endroit est alimenté en énergie psychique qui permet de maintenir le piège. Aidé d'archétypes prisonniers de l'endroit depuis plusieurs années et de ses amis (Eileen, Ramirez, Ordalie, son parrain, Cipollina, Mulkovar Dropout et trois autres métamorphes, Peggy Sue et ses filles) il va libérer les habitants de la ville. Ramirez apprend alors que son véritable père est le Millénarisme (aussi prisonnier de l'endroit) et que son beau-père était possédé par un esprit non-identifié depuis les quarante dernières années, ce qui expliquait sa méchanceté.

J'ai trouvé un petit morceau de ficelle compressé avec les feuilles de thé. La liqueur (infusion unique, grand gaiwan aux parois épaisses) a un goût camphré très net lorsque l'infusion se prolonge. Avant ça le goût camphré était discernable, mais l'ensemble était un peu flou.

Eoin Colferin kirjoittama pieni kirja (95 sivua) lapsille (isoja kirjaimia ja rivivälejä, paljon kuvia). Kaksi lasta pakotetaan menemään kolme kertaa viikossa kirjastoon. Kirjastonhoitaja on pelottava rouva Mäkinen, jota kutsutaan Pottu-Mäkiseksi. Ensin lapset eivät halua lukea kirjoja, mutta kirjastossa ei ole mitään muuta tekemistä (eikä voi hölmöillä koska Pottu-Mäkinen valvoo). Lopussa, sankari tykkää lukemisesta ja tulee kaveriksi kirjastonhoitajan kanssa.

Kirja ei ollut kovin kiinnostava minusta, mutta se ehkä sopii lapsille.

Lidl vendait jusqu'à il y a peu du Choco Nussa, un bon substitut de Nutella. Comme il ne le vendent plus et que je viens de finir mon dernier pot, j'ai décidé de retenter de fabriquer ma propre pâte à tartiner au chocolat et noisettes.

Ingrédients

• 250g chocolat noir (44% cacao)
• 100g noisettes entières
• 50g sucre
• 5cL eau chaude (environ 70 °C)

Préparation

Hacher finement les noisettes (au hachoir électrique), y ajouter le sucre et bien mélanger. Y ajouter le chocolat et faire chauffer au micro-ondes afin de faire fondre le chocolat. Mélanger à la cuillère afin d'obtenir une pâte homogène. Placer le mélange dans un mixeur et mélanger. Le mélange doit être presque homogène, à l'exception des cristaux de sucre qui crissent sous la dent lorsqu'on goûte la préparation. Ajouter l'eau chaude et mixer longuement, jusqu'à ce que les cristaux de sucre soient dissouts. S'ils ne se dissolvent pas, ajouter un peu d'eau chaude et continuer de mixer.

Remarques

• La peau de noisettes reste perceptible dans le mélange, essayer avec des noisettes pelées.
• Le goût de noisettes est assez fort, réduire la proportion de noisettes (Nutella contient 13% de noisettes, essayer avec 50g)
• Le goût de chocolat noir est important, essayer avec du chocolat au lait
• Le sucre ajouté n'est peut-être pas indispensable à la consistance, essayer sans

De plus en plus souvent de par le Web, je lis des remarques exaspérées de personnes qui se plaignent du niveau abyssal des chaînes de télévision généralistes. Mais en même temps, il semble que les gens regardent la TV plutôt que de regarder des programmes soigneusement choisi. Étant donné que 90% des programmes sont bons à jeter, il n'est pas étonnant qu'en allumant la TV au hasard, on tombe neuf fois sur dix sur un tel programme.

Il n'est pourtant pas difficile de choisir à l'avance ce qu'on veut regarder, l'enregistrer et le regarder quand on a le temps. On évite ainsi deux tracas liés à la télévision : les mauvais programmes diffusés lorsqu'on a le temps de regarder la TV, et les horaires impossibles des programmes intéressants.

Regarder la TV intelligemment est donc possible. Mais ça ne change rien au fait que 90% des programmes sont bons à jeter.
